Ceramic Coating: What is it?

 

Ceramic Coating, also known as Glass Coating due to its glossy effect, is a liquid-based coating applied on top of the clear coat of the paintwork on a vehicle. It is typically much harder than the existing clear coat of the paint, with hardness values up to 9H, resulting in a scratch-resistant & highly glossy surface.

 

What steps include the application of ceramic coating?

 

The preparation of the point for ceramic coating is the most crucial step.

 

This consists of the following:

 

1. Paint correction entails mixing the paint to erase any flaws, including scratches, oxidation markings, holograms, swirl marks, and stains.

2. Use the proper decontamination agent to remove any iron contamination from the paint, iron filings or brake dust adhered to the tip.

3. Using an antistatic agent, such as iso-propane alcohol, to make the paint dust-free.

   - On a mid-sized automobile, the preparation above stages can take up to 6-7 hours. Depending on the size, age, and condition of the car, this time may change.

 

Advantages of a ceramic covering:

1. The coating makes the surface hydrophobic. Water beads and flows away from the coating as it comes into contact with it, leaving a dry surface. This makes it easier to clean the car without having to wash it too often.

2. Since the covering is nearly impermeable, damaging exterior substances such as dust, water, mud, bird droppings and tree sap are less likely to adhere to it.
